Znamenskaya church was laid on at the behest of the Princes Elizabeth May 13, 1734 near the palace, the site of the burnt down in 1728, Church of the Annunciation, in the very presence of the Princes and many guests.
1 The church was built by the architect Michael G. Zemtsova, watching the building
works led his closest aide, Ivan Yakovlevich form.
2 Originally the church had four aisles. The main chapel - the Icon of the Mother of God. Omen. was consecrated full rank only after finishing the temple,
that lasted quite a long time and was completed only in 1747. Right side chapel of St.. Catherine the Great was consecrated much earlier - June 6, 1736. Left chapel of Sts. rights. Zechariah and Elizabeth consecrated, apparently, in the same years. Another, the upper chapel of St.. Nicholas, who was in the choir, was consecrated on June 6, 1736, at the same time with St.. Catherine the Great. According to archival documents, which took place in the temple consecration multiple aisles (before the completion of its full features) were due to continue to work on the device and decorate ikonostosov, correspondence icons, and so claim 4

Before the Sign of the Great Patriotic War, the church was the only one operating in Tsarskoye Selo, and even during the occupation continued to be committed to her worship. Since March 1938 for four years, it was the rector Archpriest Theodore Feodorovich ZABELIN (1868-1949), in August 1942 evacuated in Gatchina, which was replaced in that post Archpriest John Lavrent'evich Kolyadenko (1873 - ...). In October 1942 the Sign utensils church was moved to the palace Kochubeya to Sofia, where, since that time and has performed the Divine Liturgy.

appears to worship at Tsarskoye Selo stopped already in 1943 about the fate of Rev. John Kolyadenko, who served in both the years and in several of Paul's
temples in September 1944 is not known. Before the retreat of the German invaders were stolen from a temple in it most of the remaining icons and church plates, but the building itself is generally not affected, even within the iconostasis without ikon14 (the fate of the Mother of God "Sign" see details in Appendix VI
end of the book). In July 1944 a group of residents of the town of Pushkin has formed an initiative group and sent a petition to Metropolitan Alexy (Simanska) with a request to assist the opening of the temple, however, as is clear from the archival documents, in October 1946 the Leningrad City Council rejected the application (sent after another motion too, was rejected by April 4, 1947). The territory Lyceum kindergarten around the Sign of the church, was converted into a cemetery where were buried German soldiers and local residents who died during the war.

Since 1946, over ten years Znamenskaya church was under the jurisdiction of the Central Depository and the museum fund was used for storage of the book fund.
In 1960-1962 years the church has been restored, the spire of the bell tower, modified in the XIX century, was rebuilt in 1960 in its original form by architect Michael
Mikhailovich Plotnikov.
1990_h Until the early years in the Sign of the church housed the office 2_y master association "Restorer", is run by Catherine dvortsa_muzeya. *
In 1991, the Church of the Sign, after numerous requests, has been returned to the Russian Orthodox Church, and December 10, 1991 (the day of the feast) was opened for worship services. Following a review in 1995-1999, and the restoration of the interior decoration was completed by the fall of 2005, the restoration of facades of the Sign Church pleasantly pleasing to the eye as his parishioners and guests of Tsarskoye Selo, who saw her for the first time.
